To the kind attention of BIM subject matter experts:

You are kindly requested to consider participating in the BIM Framework research project, part of my PhD candidacy at the University of Newcastle (NSW, Australia). The project aims to validate – through a series of international focus groups – a conceptual framework which delivers a set of well-defined knowledge tools, assessment metrics and educational guides of value to both industry and academia.

The Framework is composed of a number of high-level concepts which interact to generate a set of guides and tools necessary to [i] facilitate BIM implementations, [ii] conduct BIM performance assessments, [iii] and generate multi-tiered educational curricula. This PhD research effort attempts to validate, modify and extend this BIM Framework. The top-level parts of the Framework, a sample of its deliverables and their visual representations will be offered to 60-70 international subject matter experts within a small focus group setting (90mins, each including 8-12 participants). At least six focus group sessions will be conducted in Australia, US, UK, China and other locations before the end of 2010.

To scrutinize or validate the Framework, focus group participants need to be construction Subject Matter Experts, sufficiently aware of the pre-requisites and typical deliverables of BIM. Participants will thus belong to one or both of the following groups:

A.   Industry Practitioners (architects, engineers, contractors or owners/ operators) with practical experience and/or knowledge in BIM technologies and processes. Technology strategists, process improvement consultants and BIM implementation advisors are also included in this category.

B. Academic Researchers with a published body of work covering BIM or related fields. Lecturers in construction informatics or a related field are also included in this category.

Should you meet the above criteria and are willing to participate in one of the below listed sessions, kindly contact me at least 2 days before the assigned session so I can send you additional information and a formal invitation letter:

Update: please note that the Loughborough session has been cancelled due to air traffic disruptions caused by the Icelandic volcano eruption…Apologies to all those who attended just to discover that the researcher is grounded somewhere in Germany.

Thank you for considering participation in this research project.
