This module aims to introduce advanced manufacturing processes and control techniques which are enabling “Digital Transformation” in industry. Using case studies, the participants will learn a new perspective for design, optimisation and control of manufacturing processes using Industry 4.0/5.0 technologies. Key enablers for digital transformation will be introduced and participants will learn material and process development and design techniques for innovative and personalised products. Students will receive training on advanced manufacturing and characterisation systems using Mixed Reality sessions.

In collaboration with the Government of Ireland through the Higher Education Authority (HEA), this course is available to 25 eligible learners with an 80% discount of the fees. The student contribution is €190 with €760 being contributed by the HEA. In order to qualify for a subsidised place you must meet the strict eligibility criteria detailed at: https://microcreds.ie/subsidy-eligibility. Initial offers will be strictly conditional on you meeting the eligibility criteria, and you will be required to evidence your eligibility in the weeks prior to course commencement date. Failure to do so, or false declarations may result in your subsidised place being revoked which will make you liable for the full course fee. The Learner Fee Subsidy s a separate scheme to Springboard+, you must apply for micro-credentials approved for the learner fee subsidy here - HEA - Springboard+. It is important to note that if you are not eligible for a funded place, you can apply for a place on the course as a self financing student.

The Diploma in Lean Fundamentals is an online practitioner education programme providing participants with knowledge, know-how, skills, and know-why in the fundamentals of Lean so that they can provide increased value-add and process improvement in their daily activities.
Delivered in partnership with Waterford and Wexford Education and Training Board (WWETB), the aim of this programme is to provide graduates with core skills and competency in mechanical 3D design, quality control, materials and finishing techniques, CNC machine programming andAdditive Manufacturing (AM). The graduates will also develop report writing and presentation skills as part of their applied work-based project, which will incorporate the application of their learning to their role within the company.
Sustainable engineering design is about doing the right thing for the planet. In addition, the environmental impact of every manufacturing process is very dependent on the selection of the material and design of a product, meaning that material selection can become a complex process. It includes picking the materials that suit the design, that support a feasibly low carbon footprint target, that are not harmful during use, and that can be used again. Having materials wantonly discarded is not good for anybody. The problem engineers and designers face is having to sift through the vast arrays of information written about all these materials, because it can be difficult finding the facts that provide the necessary comparisons, and each material selection may require compromise. Drawing on industry-relevant tools, this module provide structure to these important material choices decisions, to meet sustainability-driven targets, regulations or aspirations.
Post-processing, in the cyber-physical systems which form the basis of Industry 4.0, is an umbrella term that covers a variety of stages that 3D printed parts have to undergo before being used for the final purpose. Regardless of the Additive Manufacturing (AM) mode, post-processing focusses on removing the undesired properties that have been built-in the final product during the additive manufacturing process. Post-processing can include technologies such as Heat Treatment, UV Curing, Support Removal, Cleaning & De-powdering, Machining, Coating or Infiltration, Electrochemical & Surface Finish Processes, Inspection and Dyeing. This module aims to provide the student with key insights into post-processing, its different segments, and its importance in AM serial production.
